Here is how I was drawing after them, when I was in high school. It's a disgrace. That's not how someone who had art lessons through whole primary school should draw.
Art teachers are disgrace. Most of them suck. If one goes to any group art lessons, it's almost certain teacher won't teach basic drawing skills. It can even happen in expensive art schools.
I should draw on the level I draw now somewhere around 5th class of primary school. Not at 33 after 7 years of art classes in primary school, several years of going to drawing classes in community centre and 2 years of having 6 hours of art classes per week in advertisement junior college.
It's ridiculous. It's interesting how maths teachers somehow can teach, history teachers can teach, chemistry teachers can teach but art teachers seem to be selected by their complete lack of willingness and ability to teach, complete lack of discipline and lack of respect for skill.
It harms artists so much. They need to spend extra time gaining basic skills that should have been delivered by school. Also, it creates a perception that being an artist is a hobby, not real job and it's all about talent. Clients would respect artists much more if they'd have to do their portion of art chores at art classes at school, just like they had to do chemistry chores, maths chores, etc.
Just imagine how much better artists we would be if drawing would be taught as strictly as maths.
